The Computer Facility Operations Technician will maintain and update Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) at all data center locations. Responsibility is to offer technical support at the data centers by performing system/network installation and troubleshooting to ensure optimum operation, and to coordinate team effort in accomplishing the work assignments. Secondary responsibility is to ensure physical security and environmental data center issues are addressed effectively in the House environment. Other responsibility areas include providing support to vendors and Member staff. Work in conjunction with HIR systems and applications technical staff to achieve 100% reliable, available, serviceable, and secure systems. Keep management apprised of all current and pending activities in the facility. This position requires 24x7 on-call support in response to trouble calls.
Location: Full-time onsite to include Ford Office Building in DC; a Manassas, VA location; and another TBD location in the DMV area (approximately quarterly).
Duties and responsibilities include: - Offers technical support at data centers by performing system/network infrastructure installation and troubleshooting to ensure optimum operations.
- Responsibility for DCIM and the monitoring of environmental and access controls and physical security. Closely coordinates with Data Center Manager and Facilities staff for environmental control and physical security.
- Maintains effective communications with all customers utilizing HIR Facility Operations services.
- Provides coordination/support/assistance to the Facilities Team, House Offices and vendors for server/equipment installations, relocations, and decommissioning efforts in all data center facilities.
- Maintains an accurate inventory account of servers/equipment both inside and outside of the data centers on an ongoing regular basis.
- Must be able to work as a team player and independently as the need arises and capable of making decisions that align with the mission of the organization.
- Works with the Asset Management Team to perform asset inventory at all facilitates and works tor econcile any discrepancies.
- Ensures that all Data Center Facility housekeeping tasks are performed.
- Demonstrates willingness and cooperation in participating in matrix managed projects.
- Maintain proper record of work operations, events, and logs to produce concise reports to management.
- Maintains professional relationships with customers, management, colleagues and vendors and deliver high-quality customer service.
- Maintains current diagrams of network components and fiber optic cabling in assigned areas.
- Requires travel between Data Center sites and the Capitol Hill Campus.
- Requires 24x7 on-call support and may require the ability to work shift hours to provide 24x7 days a week technical support for the House's information technology infrastructure.
- Perform other official duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Data Center Infrastructure Management software experience required.
- 3 years related experience or the equivalent in combined education, training & experience
- Technology background and prior computer system operations experience, to include extensive knowledge of DCIM and Environmental monitoring and network cabling.
- Bachelor's degree in related field and 4+ years of related work experience or equivalent in combined education, training & experience is preferred. (Years of experience may be counted towards a degree and an advanced degree may be used to count for years of experience.)
Clearance Requirement: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.
The salary range for this position depends upon multiple factors including location, the individual's knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, and contract-specific budget constraints and organizational requirements.
