The Accountant will coordinate, compile, review, analyze, reconcile, and interpret financial information from various sources and prepare working papers and internal, statutory and GAAP basis Company financial statements and supplementary schedules.
This position will be with National Indemnity in Omaha, NE, and hybrid eligible after three to four months of onsite work. This position IS NOT ELIGIBLE for employment visa sponsorship.
What will you do?
FINANCIAL REPORTING: Compiles, reviews, analyzes and reconciles, and interprets financial information from various sources and prepares working papers and internal, statutory and GAAP basis Company financial statements and supplementary schedules for one or more companies or branches. (This includes the statutory annual statement schedules and separate GAAP basis financial statement packages for assigned companies or branches.)
RECONCILIATIONS: Reconcile assigned company investment and cash accounts, as well as basic general ledger account reconciliations. Provide Financial Administrator and company accountants with support in preparing schedules and research/analysis for more difficult account reconciliations.
COMMUNICATION: Coordinates communication of daily, monthly, and year end, accounting, and financial statement information between various offices and Omaha. Responsible for review, analysis, and inquiries with respect to this information, including development and completion of management reports. Travels to various offices as needed to facilitate communication process and to gather information.
PROCESS REVIEW: Reviews and suggests improvements for the design and maintenance of various processes, reconciliations and databases utilized for financial reporting, and the balancing of reports or compilation of reports/worksheets by others and the assigning of codes to data for input to the general ledger system for accuracy and timeliness. Uses PC, and/or manual systems for development of and allocation of IBNR amounts, unallocated paid amounts, and other financial accruals and financial estimates.
AUDITOR AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSES: Responds to inquiries from internal and external auditors, state regulators, and others regarding financial transactions, balances, and procedures. Coordinates completion and maintenance of internal documentation which includes answering internal and external auditor questions, reviewing work performed by internal auditors and providing direction as needed, and responding to auditors , NICO and Berkshire managements questions. Informs management of internal control documentation changes. Collaborates with company personnel on the completion of required documentation and the identification and remediation of internal control gaps.
INTERN MANAGEMENT: May supervise intern(s) and assign projects and tasks to intern(s), including the auditing of daily disbursement requests, as well as verifying deposits, providing coding for monthly invoices, and forwarding payment requests to Accounts Payable, and corresponding with various personnel.

Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
