A Brief Overview
Provides direct patient care by performing respiratory pulmonary function testing. . Provides appropriate respiratory care specific to the pediatric population in accordance with the hospital policy/procedure. Assesses, plans and implements appropriate respiratory plan of care based on the cardiopulmonary needs of the patients. Evaluates effectiveness of plan of care and recommends revisions to the multidisciplinary care team.

Essential Functions

Performs pulmonary function testing , pentamidine treatments, and other duties as assigned. Performs pulmonary function testing and stress tests, obtaining accurate data and. enters reports in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for interpretation by the provider. Implements/prepares patient/caregiver education per plan of care. Communicates education needs to patient/caregiver/staff at an understandable level and in a timely manner. Displays knowledge of and practices risk management and safety precautions (i.e. suction card up to date, trach sizes). Assists provider in other procedures as requested.
2. Documentation is complete, accurate and done in a timely manner. Follow up is completed to ensure results are obtained and relayed to parents/patient. Accurate information is obtained upfront to ensure proper care and billing of patient for services performed. Procedures performed are documented in patients medical record with accuracy and timely. Charges are data entered accurately and within identified time line. Tracks procedure/test results to ensure follow through by physician and results relayed to parents/patient. Ensures all charges are entered appropriately for testing performed.
3. Assesses/reassesses the cardiopulmonary needs of the pediatric patient according to the department/area standards. Assessment is appropriate for developmental age of child and documentation. Provides input/feedback/recommendations to provider or others in the interdisciplinary team. Identifies education needs of patient/caregiver. Identifies appropriate goals/outcomes and actions for clients (i.e. individualized, prioritized).
Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Education Qualifications

Associate's Degree from an AMA accredited college or university in respiratory care Required

Experience Qualifications

Minimum 1 year experience as a Respiratory Therapist, preferably in a pediatric setting Required

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of Metabolic Stress Testing preferred.
Previous experience with pulmonary function testing preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Nebraska Upon Hire Required and
RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Iowa within 90 Days Required and
RESP REG - Respiratory Therapist, Registered within 1 Year Required and
Current and valid National Registered or Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT or CPFT) within three years of hire. Required and
Health Services\BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required and
PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 180 Days Required
