Description

Involved in the administration of standard of care treatment and clinical research protocols that involve preparing radioactive drugs and administering them to patients. Responsible for performing a variety of administrative and technical procedures that require the use of independent judgment.

  • Takes care of any patient needs promptly and willingly
  • Operates and maintains nuclear medicine equipment to assure optimum clarity for physician diagnosis and minimal discomfort and radiation exposure to the patient.
  • Performs PET/CT scans and radiotherapy procedures.   
  • Performs and analyzes quality control procedures for all instrumentation.
  • Administers diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals practicing safe handling and appropriate labeling.
  • Adheres to processes and procedures detailed in research protocols
  • Completes training for Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and additional research protocol required training.
  • Submits radioactive drug orders and oversees drug delivery.
  • Attends quarterly Radiation Safety Committee meetings.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and radiation safety guidelines in the transport, receipt and shipment of radioactivity.
  • Interacts with patients prior to and during Nuclear Medicine procedures, using good communication and interpersonal skills, to reduce anxieties and/or fears.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies to ensure consistency and efficiency of equipment performance.
  • Explains imaging procedures to the patient and answer questions.
  • Follows safety procedures to protect themselves and the patient from unnecessary radiation exposure.
  • Monitors the patient to check for reactions to the drugs.
  • Keeps detailed records of procedures.
  • Demonstrate skill in use of equipment relevant to position; verbalizes knowledge of appropriate safety procedures.
  • Diagnoses equipment problems; repairs or seeks out someone to repair, and informs appropriate personnel regarding problems encountered with repairs or calibration.
  • Demonstrates NCS Mission and Core Values through actions and words.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrates flexibility and adaptability.

Requirements

  1. Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine Technology as normally acquired through completion of an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science.
  2. 1700 hours of clinical instruction required.
  3. Registry eligible (ARRT (n) or CNMT) with credentialing within one (1) year of hire required.
  4. Certified by the NMTCB(CT)or obtain NMTCB(CT) certification within one year of hire.
  5. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, with I.V. set up skills preferred.
