Position Summary:

Lindsay Corporation is seeking a skilled and motivated Automation Engineer to join our dynamic team. As an Automation Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and implementing automation solutions that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our irrigation and infrastructure systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive automation initiatives, improve product quality, and contribute to the continuous growth of our innovative product portfolio.

Essential functions:

This is a full-time position based in Lindsay, NE. Limited travel may be required to other Lindsay locations.

  • Design, develop, and implement automation solutions, including PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programming, HMI (Human-Machine Interface) design, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system development, and related software applications.
  • Create functional Specifications for new equipment and systems.
  • Design, program, and commission PLC based automated control systems.
  • Generate statement of work for projects
  • Specify and complete Factory and Site Acceptance testing.
  • Project manage machine integration from concept through implementation.
  • Perform system integration and testing to ensure the successful implementation of automation solutions, adhering to safety and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify automation opportunities and develop strategies to streamline processes, reduce manual intervention, and enhance system performance.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of existing systems, identify potential areas for automation, and create detailed project plans to execute automation projects.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, vendors, and internal teams to select appropriate automation components, hardware, and software to achieve project objectives.
  • Troubleshoot and debug automation systems, addressing technical issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
  • Stay current with industry trends and technological advancements in automation, bringing innovative ideas and best practices to the team.
  • Provide technical support and training to internal stakeholders and end-users, ensuring effective adoption and utilization of automation technologies.
  • Ensure all equipment meets or exceeds OSHA standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • 3-5 years proven experience in designing, developing, and implementing automation solutions, preferably within the manufacturing, agriculture, or infrastructure sectors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with designing and implementing automation solutions into a volume manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.), HMI/SCADA system development, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with control systems, sensors, actuators, and other automation components.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices related to automation systems.
  • Willingness to adapt to new technologies and learn new skills as needed.
  • Experience with software development, data analysis, and cloud technologies is a plus.
