Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
The engineer II provides engineering services for the planning, design, procurement and construction of pipeline and/or compression projects for Northern Natural Gas Company's pipeline system. Responsibilities include design, cost estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contract administration, cost analysis, inspections and maintenance. Conducts engineering studies and investigations and prepares oral and written reports. Provides engineering assistance to other departments. Keeps informed of industry issues and technical trends that can benefit Northern's business.
Typical Duties
Reverse engineer components needed for natural gas compressors and turbines, create engineering drawings, and assist in solving manufacturing concerns.
Provide engineering support to machine shop and weld shop.
Perform engineering analysis on designed parts to ensure safety and reliability.
Perform engineering studies involving data analysis and process flow analysis and preparing oral and written reports.
Prepare detailed cost estimates (+/-10%) for engineering and construction projects and for use in determining feasibility of certain projects.
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
"Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
One to three years of engineering experience.
Must have significant engineering knowledge of natural gas industry related to the design and installation of pipelines, compressor stations and process equipment.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Strong technical writing skills including the ability to communicate a basic understanding of technical information to non technical people.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Cross functional skills; ability and willingness to cross over to construction coordination or project management work on specific projects.
Critical thinking and decision making skills to develop and present technical recommendations.
